It took months to convince the people at the heart of swinging in Wales to tell their stories. This is a glimpse inside the ultra-secretive world of Welsh swingers. Beaten with hammers and forced to eat pictures of dead relatives, the victim of 'one of worst ever domestic abuse cases' tells her story. Deep in the northern fringes of the Brecon Beacons an old farmer is keeping an isolated, beautiful chapel going.
This is the beautiful, poignant story of the remote Welsh chapel where there's only one worshipper left. In addition, Cooper's son Adrian told investigators how he'd always wondered why the dozens of picture frames in his father's back room all contained photos of "people he did not recognise. Also recovered in the raid was the shotgun and a pair of blood-stained shorts which had belonged to Gwenda Dixon and kept by Cooper as a bizarre 'trophy', after having sexually assaulted and killed her.
Cooper was therefore jailed for 16 years for a spate of some 30 burglaries and the Sardis robbery alone. Advances in forensic examination would point to him once again though, with eventual, more detailed DNA tests on the shorts revealing traces of Peter and Gwenda's genetic makeup. So, having been released from prison on licence in after a decade inside, Cooper was re-arrested and charged with the four murders. In an even more bizarre twist, Cooper's love of darts saw him implicated further still as old footage surfaced of him competing on Bullseye, the Sunday teatime game show presented by the late Jim Bowen.
The episode in question had been recorded in May , exactly a month before the Dixon murders and, in a pre-round ramble with the programme's host, Cooper talked about his hobbies and love of The Great Outdoors, detailing at length the geography of the West Wales countryside. More specifically, it showed he had intimate knowledge of the area where the English hiking couple had been killed. His appearance at the time, with scruffy mullet and moustache, also proved a dead-ringer for the sketch artist's impression of the suspect from the original '89 enquiry.
The judge handed down four 'whole life' sentences, telling the year-old: "The murders were of such evil wickedness the mandatory sentence of life will mean just that. Wagging his finger at the bench as he got taken down, Cooper again protested his innocence and warned that the truth would, one day, "all come out on the internet. Cooper has since been implicated in five other murders and had his last appeal rejected in November By Nathan Bevan Senior Reporter. Fancy a trip down memory lane?

Other researchers, however, see dangerous trends now. Earlier this year, Pope and a colleague published case reports of three men who were convicted of crimes they committed while on steroids:. He developed paranoid suspicions that his wife was plotting against him. He grew angry one day at an offhand joke from a store clerk and kidnapped her in his car. When she tried to flee at a roadblock, he grabbed a revolver and shot her in the spine, leaving her permanently paralyzed. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
The man said he felt superhuman when he took steroids. I could hear and feel the earth move as I beat on the ground again and again," he told Pope. One day he picked up a hitchhiker and, with no apparent provocation, drove him to the woods and beat him with a 2-by-4 across his back.
The victim was found dead the next morning. The man was sentenced to life plus 30 years in prison. When the woman he had been dating broke off their engagement, he set off a bomb under her car by remote control. She escaped unharmed. He was later sentenced to 22 years in prison. Yesalis says, however, that other incidents as dramatic as these can be traced to heavy drinking. Plenty of college towns on a football game weekend have seen incidents of "alcohol-induced rage," he says.
It may also be hard to know whether some people have pre-existing personality problems that are made worse by steroid use. Drinking or using other illicit drugs could also be a factor that, in combination with steroids, makes for trouble. Scientific studies may not necessarily answer the question of whether steroids can induce psychosis or major depression.
Anabolic steroids are often sold on the black market, and buyers may not know what they're getting in quality or quantity. In Eric Elofson's case, an analysis of the drug traces from bottles found in his car showed he was getting steroids produced by a factory in Tijuana.
The bottle had a false label indicating it was made in Germany. Elofson says he has since learned that counterfeit labels are common. Elofson says it will take him a long time to get over his son's death, and in the meantime he wants to warn other parents and teen-agers of the grief steroids can bring.
Steroid users believe that pyramiding allows the body time to adjust to the high doses, and the drug-free cycle allows the body's hormonal system time to recuperate. National Institutes of Health. Drug Topics. More Drug Topics. Quick Links. About NIDA. Research Report. Prev Next.
